Title
Tommy's service
Description
Tommy's great grand daughter describes his period of service. Includes the incidence when pilot Stan Slater's Lancaster was set on fire and he tried to dive to put the fire out but was unsuccessful. Tommy bailed out by parachute and was taken in by locals and smuggled across borders and transported back home. in a Dakota. The people who helped him escape made a doll for Tommy's then one year old son.
Tommy's brother, Bert, also served and became a member of the Guinea Pig Club. Bert delivered aircraft and was shot down by friendly fire. He survived and benefitted from skin grafts following plastic surgery.
