Description

Navigator's, air bomber's and air gunner's flying log book for Dennis Dowdeswell covering the period 22 May 1943 to 14 November 1945. Details his training and operations flown as air gunner. He was stationed at RAF Morpeth (4 AGS), RAF Lichfield (27 OTU), RAF Sleep (81 OTU), RAF Ingham (1481 Gunnery Flight), RAF Lindholme (1656 HCU), RAF Ludford Magna (101 Squadron). RAF Catfoss (CGS) and RAF Hemswell (170 Squadron).

Aircraft flows were Martinet, Botha, Wellington, Whitley, Halifax and Lancaster. Gerald flew 37 operations, 32 night time and 5 daylight with 101 and 170 Squadrons including one Cook's tour with Pilot Officer Forsyth, Flight Lieutenant Dixie, Flight Lieutenant Court, Flight Lieutenant Chandler and Wing Commander Rooke.

Targets were Berlin, Stettin, Magdeburg, Leipzig, Stuttgart, Scheinfurt, Frankfurt, Essen, Aulnoye, Aachen, Rouen, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Karlsruhe, Maintenon, Mailly le Camp, Resses St Jaques aerodrome, Orleans, Duisburg, Brunswick, Bourleopold, Trappes, Politz, Dortmund, Nordhausen, Heligoland, and Rotterdam.
