Observer’s and air gunner’s flying log book for E B Chandler, wireless operator/air gunner. Covering the period from 13 November 1940 to 22 June 1945. Detailing his flying training, operations flown and instructor duties. He was stationed at 4 Bombing and Gunnery School RAF West Fraugh, Anson Flight RAF Upper Heyford, 16 Operational Training Unit RAF Upper Heyford, 49 Squadron RAF Scampton and RAF Fiskerton, Central Gunnery School RAF Castle Kennedy, 617 Squadron RAF Coningsby and RAF Woodhall Spa, 1 Film Production Unit, 233 Squadron and 514 Squadron. Aircraft flown in were Dominie, Battle, Anson, Hampden, Hereford, Blenheim, Wellington, Whitley, Manchester, Lancaster, Defiant, Oxford, Maryland, Mosquito, Boston, Dakota, Stirling and Halifax. He flew 86 operations, 55 night time with 49 Squadron and 5 daylight and 24 night operations with 617 Squadron. Targets were Bremen, Hamburg, Frisian Islands, Brest, Ludwigshafen, Mannheim, Kiel, Heligoland, Dusseldorf, Brunswick, Sylt, Cologne, Frankfurt, Berlin, Oslo, Kassel, Rostock, Essen, Rennes, St Nazaire, Duisburg, Spezia, Pilsen, Friedrichshafen, Nuremburg, Peenemunde, Mönchengladbach, Hannover, Antheor Viaduct, Flixecourt, Liege, Amiens, Limoges, Albert, St Etienne, Woippy, Clermont-Ferrand, Bergerac, Angouleme, Lyon, St Cyr, Juvisy, La Chapelle, Saumur tunnel, Le Havre, Boulogne, Pas De Calais, St Omer, St Pol, Limburg and Ypenburg. His pilots on operations were Sergeant Welch, Sergeant Woolston, Sergeant Green, Sergeant Bachelor, Squadron Leader Tench, Sergeant Broomfield, Sergeant Samuels, Flight Sergeant Rowlands, Wing Commander Slee, Squadron Leader Barnard, Flight Lieutenant Green, Sergeant Gumbley, Wing Commander Johnson, Flight lieutenant Taylor, Sergeant Blackmore, Flight Lieutenant Munro and Flight Lieutenant Wilson. He also flew one Operation Exodus and one Operation Manna. The log book also contains various photos and sketches of crews and aircraft.
